Ready for Change is a political action committee dedicated to get-out-the-vote activities, voter education, and supporting Democratic candidates. Our goal is to make democracy more representative by increasing voter participation among youth and communities of color at the local and state level. We meet people where they are and register people to vote.
While running for New York City Council, Troy Blackwell noticed a gap in voter education. He met many constituents that strongly supported progressive policies but they were not aware what powers the city council and state assembly have, or that we the people can vote for Judges, or that the district attorney (the most powerful player in the criminal justice system) is an elected position. For example: in the 2021 New York City primaries, less than 25% of registered voters actually cast a ballot. Understanding that voter education is one of the passports out of poverty, Blackwell sought to change this and formed Ready for Change.
Blackwell strongly believes even if someone is not "into politics" -- everything around us is political -- the water we drink, our schools, access to housing, healthcare, etc.
